Daisy Fund Daisy Fund The Wire Fox Terrier and the Smooth Fox Terrier are fairly rare breeds; however they still end up in animal shelters and Fox Terrier Rescue groups at an alarming rate. Many were just in the wrong home and need to find a terrier knowledgeable person that will love what they are and not be trying to change them from being Fox Terriers. A certain amount of these dogs are seniors with medical problems, generally healthy, but have one or more treatable problems. These dogs were very hard to place as many of the adopters just could not afford to take on big or even small medical problems. The Fox Terrier Network has had a Rescue Fund in place for many years that helped many of these dogs, but it was only for dogs that were actually “in rescue” at the time. There was no help for on going medical problems if the dogs were placed. Senior Wires and Smooths many times were put down or lived out their lives with a rescue worker. This was often ok for the dog, but took up a place in rescue, that was needed by other fox terriers in shelters and bad homes. In the
The Daisy Committee and Daisy Fund were created because of this need. The Daisy Fund helps those rescue fox terriers that have come thru either an animal shelter or an all breed rescue group or a American Fox Terrier Rescue group. It allows these dogs to be placed in loving homes to live out their lives and for the owners to know that there is help if there is a major problem. The Daisy Fund comes totally, at this time, from donations from the public. Our ability to help will depend on the funds we have available at the time. The Daisy Committee of five FTN members, goes over every application for help, and sees if it conforms to our guidelines for help. We can only help on procedures and treatments that are life saving or make a major difference in the quality of life for this dog. Regular maintance costs must be handled by the owner. Most people can handle these; it’s those big items that they don’t have the funds to cover. Eligibility Guidelines for the Fox Terrier Network Daisy Fund
The FTN Daisy Fund is owned by the Fox Terrier Network, Inc. and administrated by the Daisy Committee. “Daisy” was the first rescue fox terrier helped by the FTN Rescue Fund and so we honor her by naming this continuing committee and Fund in her honor. Below are the eligibility guidelines for applying for funds from this Fund. 1. Only purebred Wire Fox Terriers and Smooth Fox Terriers can receive funds. 2. The Daisy Fund can only accept applications for spayed and neutered Fox Terriers. The only exception is if the primary vet has determined that altering the dog is life-threatening. Documentation of either alteration or inability to conform must accompany application for funds. In case the adopter cannot determine the reproductive situation, please ask the vet to provide confirmation of her/his findings. 3. There are two forms that must be filled out and returned to the Daisy Committee to apply for funding. The first form is from the current owner of the fox terrier and the second form is from the attending veterinarian. Both must be completed and returned by email or fax to the committee before they can consider action. These forms will be available on the Fox Terrier Network website (www.foxterrier.com) and the American Fox Terrier Rescue website (www.foxterrierrescue.net) 4. The Daisy committee will do its very best to contact the applicants with our decision within five working days after receipt of all required paperwork from the applicant and their veterinarian. Each application is decided upon based on its own merits. The Daisy Fund comes from donations by caring individuals that want to help and has limits. What can be paid out can depend on the amount of Funds available at the time. We want to help every deserving fox terrier and their owner, but the applicant has to be aware of our limitations. 5. The Daisy Fund is only for Wire Fox Terriers and Smooth Fox Terriers that have been adopted from a recognized shelter or rescue group. We are sorry that at this time we cannot help those dogs purchased from breeders or pet shops or other sources. 1. Emergency, life-threatening injuries or disease, with a reasonable prognosis for a decent quality and length of life. 2. Medications that will help with quality of life, ie: thyroid medication, etc. 3. Treatments to save or reasonably extend the life of the dog. 4. Heartworm treatment, and preventative. Not Covered: 1. Spay/neuter procedures and vaccinations 2. Flea and tick preventative 3. Office visits
