Start a Fox Terrier Rescue Group

Are you interested in getting involved in Fox Terrier Rescue? Please go to www.foxterrierrescue.net for a complete listing of FT Rescue groups. If there is one in your area, then it's best if you work together. If not, then you need to decide if you want to start a new Fox Terrier Rescue.

We suggest that you read the information on our page, "Starting a Purebred Rescue". You can also go to the Dog Rescue website at: www.dogrescuelist.com Click on "classes". General Dog Rescue classes were given and all the posts from those classes are archived on that site. Some excellent information is there. Then check to see if there is an all breed rescue group in your area. Find out if anyone is doing related breeds, Rat Terrier, Toy Fox Terrier or Jack Russell Terrier Rescue. Talk to the experienced rescue people from other breeds. Networking with these people can make a big difference.

One obsolute in Dog Rescue is that ALL dogs must be spayed or neutered before placement. We do not take the chance that a new home will do this after they get the dog. So it's important to have a vet that will work with you and give you a discount. Your rescue must be self supporting. Generally we ask for $150.00 for the rescue dogs that we place. So if that dog costs more than $150.00 to get ready for placement you must be able to cover these costs. Either yourself or though outside donations. Some dogs will cost more, and some less. Hopefully it will balance out. The dog coming in that is already spayed or neutered and has all its shots and is ready to go will help pay for the one that costs $50 to get out of the shelter and has another $100.00 in costs before it can be placed.

Also realize that the $150.00 is just a suggested amount. It can be more, depending on the costs in your area.

Be sure that you can care for the dogs that you may be called to get. A shelter can't wait. If they call you must be ready to take that dog immediately. ALWAYS return calls from an animal shelter right away.

This is only a general overview. There is much more to Fox Terrier Rescue. There is a private e-mail list for those that do Fox Terrier Rescue and you could be eligible to join once you decided to be involved.

This is terribly rewarding work and you are saving the lives of Fox Terriers that would otherwise be lost. You need the support of your family and the true wish to help.
