What is a Fox Terrier Rescue Group?

All over the U.S. and Canada we have small groups, clubs and individuals that have chosen to do Fox Terrier Rescue. Some are people that have bred and shown Fox Terriers for many years and some are pet owners like many of you. But all have made a commitment to help the dogs in their community that have "fallen though the cracks" and are in need of help. Each group or individual is independent. Most are caring, ethical rescuers but there are those that may not be doing the best job, and will call themselves Fox Terrier Rescue and are not looking out for the best interests of the dogs.

It is important to check someone out and be sure that they are legitimate. Always ask questions if you are in doubt.

Any FT Rescue person or group, will always have all rescue dogs spayed or neutered before placement. This is an absolute. They will ask questions of you to be sure that you know the breed and what it is like to live with one and that you will be the best home for that individual dog. There will be a placement fee. It is to cover some of the expenses of the work being done. The minimum is usually $150.00 This is to cover the fee to get the dog from the shelters. They usually charge rescue just as they would anyone else. They, too, have their expenses to meet. There is the cost of vaccinations being brought up-to-date and the cost of spaying and neutering. Some rescue groups will also microchip each dog in their rescue program. In areas where it is necessary, they will be heartworm tested and checked for other parasites. This all adds up quickly. Then add the cost of food and everyday care while the dog is with the rescue group. Other vet care or training costs. This is why donations are always most welcome.

We hope that when looking for your next dog you will first contact a regional Fox Terrier Rescue group and see if they might have that perfect dog for you...
