2008 Smooth Photo Contest Judge Smooth Fox Terriers - Co-Judge: John Killeen I started in Wires, I would say, the first time I saw Asta's antics in the "Thin Man" movies. In other words, I've loved them my entire life. My first wire as an adult was a female who was losing her home. She was a definite pet, ears straight up, but a wonderful girl. Next I met Conor who was in the window of a pet shop that was on my way home from work. I couldn't stand seeing him in that window everyday. So, one day I went in and made a "deal" and took him home. Again, not a show dog, but closer than the female. We tried to show him, but realized quickly he wasn't show stuff. With this boy, I started showing, learned to groom and discovered that he was a wonderfully talented earth dog. After my taste of showing, I had to find a show dog. So, we did (after a year long search). While on the East Coast, I bred, whelped and showed numerous litters of Wires under the Dun Gar Wire Fox Terriers prefix. I belong to Monmouth Country Kennel Club and still do. I have been a proud member of the American Fox Terrier Club (AFTC) since 1991. In recent years, I have presented a power point presentation of images from all of the AFTC specialties from the prior year yearly at the Annual Dinner in Pennsylvania. In 2003 I moved to California, changed my kennel prefix to Frenchpark Fox Terriers and Smooth Fox Terriers entered my life. Shortly thereafter, I joined Western Fox Terrier Breeders Association (WFTBA). Through WFTBA I have met lots of great folks and I enjoy being a member immensely. In 2007, I wrote a 100 year history book for WFTBA. I have been judging Matches and Sweepstakes since before I left the East Coast. I recently took the plunge into judging Wires in regular classes and accepted my first assignment. I also spend a good bit of time teaching people how to groom their Wires correctly. I guess you could say that I like these Fox Terriers.
