Related Breeds There are at least three closely related breeds to the Smooth Fox Terrier. They are listed below. The Wire Fox Terrier is most closely related to many of the other English wire coated breeds. The Wire and Smooth are two totally separate breeds, with different backgrounds. They were bred to do the same job, but are not related. The Rat Terrier was one of the few originally "Bred in America" dogs. They came from a cross of the Smooth Fox Terrier and the Manchester Terrier. The Toy Fox Terrier was originally breed from the Smooth Fox Terrier and is a much smaller dog today.
