                         RAT TERRIER

The Rat Terrier was one of the few originally “Bred in America” breeds of dogs. We believe they came from a cross of the Smooth Fox Terrier and the Manchester Terrier. For more info please go to: www.ratterrierclub.com this is the national club for Rat Terriers.

Here is a photo of the Rat Terrier. You can see the resemblance to the Smooth Fox Terrier, however the head is different.  The Rat Terrier head is more of a triangle to the long cynlindar of the Smooth head.  Also the Rat Terrier’s tail is docked short in most cases.  In general, the Rat Terrier is “round’ and the Smooth Fox Terrier is “square.”

Here is a good photo of the Rat Terrier head. These photos come from Jo Anne Draper of www.kingpenkennels.com
